Surface data from 25 flat and 25 jump race meetings were collected using a Vienna Surface tester and moisture meter. The racing line was measured at each racecourse at 250 m intervals on a race day morning. Horse performances were quantified using winning horse finishing times and a time based going allowance was calculated for each race at the meeting. Surface data and horse performance data were compared using linear and non-linear models.
